Don't take another scoop of protein!
In the crowded space we call the fitness industry, it’s not easy to decipher what protein brand you should be taking. There is some great marketing engines out there and some of the top brands of done really well with getting their products within arm’s reach of any major town – but does that mean they are really a better product?

If your protein doesn't mention the following, throw it out!
FDA Registered Facility
Knowing your proteins' facility and it's manufacturing equipment meets and/or exceeds FDA requirements.
GMP Certified
Everything from the way it's manufactured, bottled, and stored is certified GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).
NSF Certified
The formulation is tested for truancy and validity in relation to what has been advertised on the label and vice versa.
Its important to know that the
FDA does not regulate the industry. Consider this - How many
good people would run a Stop sign or
make an illegal U-Turn in your town to make a deadline or ends meet, if there
were no police to enforce good behavior?
This “cutting corners" mentality happens all the time in this
industry. Anywhere from adding fillers to stretch formulas, embellishment of
ingredients/label claims, questionable unsafe substances, metals, dyes,
detergents, and the list goes on.
It has caused lawsuits, product de-shelving/recalls,
foreclosures, and even deaths.
Cutting through the bull...
Protein Spiking or Nitrogen spiking, which is also known as "amino spiking" is a trick that some supplement companies do to list more protein in their products than what is actually in there and many times they are never caught.
If a company is to go as far as to lie to you about how much protein they have by replacing or hiding them with other ingredients, what else are they willing to do? This is why I suggest that you toss out any protein products that contain ingredients like Taurine or inflated numbers of Glutamine.
Keep in mind, there are certainly naturally occurring Aminos and BCAA branch chain aminos in WHEY protein, but in excess you getting an either or scenario – not both. A common misnomer is having a lot of Glutamine in a protein product and thinking you are really getting both 24+ grams of protein per serving + 5+ grams of Glutamine in that same serving.
